Our new ‘Winsnes Legend’ caps feature patches that celebrate the Winsnes Salmon Fishing Club which we have been running here every summer since 1882.

There’s a cap for first fish, another for catching a 20 pounder, a thirty pounder and finally 40 pounds plus. Our guests get one of these at the end of the week. The colour of the patch depends on the weight of the fish.

Next season we will use a different cap colour and we are thinking of introducing some new ‘achievement’ patches, such as a patch to celebrate a salmon caught on a dry fly…
The patches were designed by Andy Eriksen

The hats have become very popular among guests. Not everyone can sport the purple one as this gentleman can. The 40 lbs patch have only been made in very limited numers.

Good start on week 26

We got 3 fish yesterday and sport is slowish but decent in patches. Here’s a lovely Gaula fish caught by regular Glenn Hole just before the big storm arrived.

Persistence paid off

Week 27 saw Gaula running at a nice level after a couple of mid-week mini-spates which saw the river running at low to medium height.

The Martinson fly

Today’s choice – one of my own flies, the Martinson – I named the fly after finding a moth-eaten collection of old flies belonging to an old Swedish fisherman who fished at Winsnes for many years.
